The Virgin Mary, Grinch Slayer | Christian Tradition & the Devil - AND Christmas Longing
The Nathan Jacobs Podcast
Happy Thursday subscribers! Thursday is upon us and so is a new episode of The Nathan Jacobs Podcast.
In fact, today’s post includes two — yes, two — episodes. (I neglected to post last week’s episode, so I’m sending some much belated links below. Apologies.)
On The Nathan Jacobs Podcast, Christmas is in the air.
Last week’s episode asks, What is this feeling, so sudden and new? To get to the bottom of this holiday longing, I delve into the topics of human nature and God’s essence and energies. Diving back into the history of ideas and coming out on the other side, we come to see what it means that all of creation groans.
In this week’s episode, we look at the Nativity story. You may be familiar with the popularized details of this narrative from the Gospels. But this week, I dive into extra-biblical traditions about Mary and the birth of Christ, as well as exploring what the Devil was up to while the Christ child was gestating in Mary's womb.
Be watching on Sunday for the next installment of my Leibniz book this Sunday. You can read the latest installment here.
